Space Is A Significant Growth Area For Kirtland AFB
There are four organizations involved with US Space Force, on Kirtland AFB:
- The Space Vehicles Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory
- The Directed Energy Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory
- The Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO) which reports directly to the Chief Space Operations who reports to the Secretary of the Air Force.
- The Space and Missile Systems Center, a subordinate unit of U.S. Space Force, is the center of technical excellence for developing, acquiring, fielding and sustaining military space systems. SMC's mission is to deliver resilient and affordable space capabilities. The center is responsible for on-orbit check-out, testing, sustainment and maintenance of military satellite constellations and other Department of Defense space systems. The Advanced Systems and Development Directorate on KAFB drives future space capabilities through collaborative innovation, development planning, and demonstrations.
These units involve both Research and Development organizations and Operational units and are working together closely with a synergy worth attention. Space is a frontier which will continue to undergo significant growth, and the Kirtland Partnership Committee will participate as appropriate to help that growth.
