Jim’s career in public service began in the Army, where his service included a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam for which he received the Bronze Star. Jim worked in the Army’s Night Vision Laboratory for five years before becoming a program manager and office director at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, assuming the mantle of acting director. His foray into the private sector includes senior executive positions at Martin Marietta Corporation, Sandia National Laboratories, and Lockheed Martin. Jim was appointed director of Defense Threat Reduction Agency in 2005, and as a director of Strategic Command Center for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction. DBE consults for the government and private sector on nonproliferation and counterproliferation issues related to weapons of mass destruction. Jim is a member of the Army Science Board.
